IT Managed Services & AI Operations — Weekly Brief
Week of 22 June 2026 | Compiled by Team Paringa
A weekly digest of significant developments in enterprise IT managed services, AI-driven operations, and the evolving MSP landscape. For IT leaders, CIOs, and operations teams navigating the shift toward AI-augmented infrastructure management.
SECTION 1 — What Happened This Week
🔴 40% of Large Enterprises Moving to Largely Autonomous IT Operations by End of 2026 (Gartner)
Gartner's latest projection makes the shift explicit: 40% of large enterprises will combine AIOps with observability practices to run largely autonomous IT operations by the end of 2026 — up from under 10% in 2023. In three years, the fraction of enterprises running AI-augmented, proactive IT operations has quadrupled.
What this means in practice: monitoring, anomaly detection, incident triage, and routine remediation are increasingly handled by AI systems rather than human operators. Managed services teams that previously spent most of their time reacting to incidents are being repositioned toward AI oversight, exception handling, and continuous improvement — activities that require different skills from traditional IT support.
For enterprise IT leaders evaluating their managed services relationships: this is the question to ask. Are the managed services you're receiving evolving toward proactive, AI-driven operations? Or are you still paying for a reactive model built around ticket response times and SLA percentages?

🔴 AI Agent Fleets in IT Operations — The Emerging Management Challenge
Enterprise IT operations coverage this week points to a significant structural shift in how AI is being deployed in infrastructure management. Rather than individual AI tools running discrete tasks, the leading pattern in 2026 is AI agent fleets — coordinated teams of specialised agents that monitor, diagnose, and autonomously remediate IT issues across complex, multi-cloud environments.
The MCP (Model Context Protocol) standard is emerging as the governing protocol for agent-to-infrastructure communication. Both Red Hat (via Ansible 2.7) and SUSE (via their SUSECON MCP integrations) have shipped MCP implementations this year, signalling that the major infrastructure vendors are building toward agent-native operations.
The management challenge this creates: how do you govern, audit, and maintain visibility over AI agent fleets at scale? The questions that apply to device fleets — inventory, configuration management, patch cadence, access control, behaviour monitoring — all apply to AI agent fleets, with additional complexity around autonomous decision-making and audit trails for AI-generated actions.

Paringa insight: The fleet management parallel is instructive here. Organisations that are good at managing large device fleets — consistent imaging, centralised policy, monitoring, automated remediation — are often better positioned for AI agent fleet management than organisations that are approaching AI operations as something entirely new. The disciplines transfer. What's different is the governance layer: AI agents make autonomous decisions, and those decisions need to be auditable in a way that a firmware update does not. Building audit trails and accountability structures for AI agent actions is an emerging discipline that is not yet well served by standard IT operations tooling.
🟡 MSP Market: The Split Between Proactive and Reactive Providers
KPMG's Managed Services Outlook Survey 2026 identifies a clear bifurcation in the MSP market. Providers that have adopted AI-driven, proactive service models — predictive analytics, self-healing automation, outcome-based reporting — are outperforming on growth and client retention. Providers competing primarily on price and SLA response times are under increasing margin pressure.
The enterprise side of this equation is also shifting. KPMG reports that enterprise IT buyers are increasingly selecting managed services providers based on the sophistication of their AI and automation capability, not just their pricing and service tier structure.

SECTION 2 — What Enterprise IT Leaders Are Dealing With
The Four Expectations That Are Reshaping Managed Services Relationships
Research across the MSP market in 2026 identifies four enterprise expectations that are changing the nature of managed services contracts and provider relationships:
Prevention over reaction. Enterprises are increasingly unwilling to accept reactive managed services as the baseline. AIOps-driven monitoring that surfaces and resolves issues before they cause incidents is becoming the standard expectation, not a premium tier.
Board-level visibility. Boards and audit committees want to understand IT operations, AI system behaviour, and security posture in terms they can engage with. Managed services providers that can translate operational data into board-readable reporting have a significant advantage.
AI operations capability. As enterprises deploy AI systems, they need managed support for those AI deployments — not just for the underlying infrastructure. Few MSPs currently have formal AI operations capability; this is an emerging gap.
Integrated security. Enterprises want IT operations and security monitoring integrated rather than managed by separate providers with separate dashboards and separate reporting lines. The "managed services" and "managed security" categories are converging.
Paringa insight: The convergence of IT operations and AI governance is the most significant structural change in the managed services market in 2026. Enterprises deploying AI need someone who can manage the infrastructure that AI runs on AND govern the AI systems themselves — ensuring they operate within defined parameters, their decisions are auditable, and the data they access is protected. These are rarely found together in a single provider today, which is why the organisations managing this most effectively are building partnerships between their infrastructure managed services provider and their AI governance and security specialists.
Three Things Worth Watching Next Week
1. AIOps vendor consolidation — the market for AIOps platforms is consolidating rapidly. Watch for acquisitions or significant product announcements from the major observability vendors (Dynatrace, Datadog, New Relic) that reshape what "proactive managed services" looks like.
2. AI agent governance frameworks — NIST, ISO, and major cloud providers are all developing guidance on how enterprises should govern AI agent deployments. Early guidance documents will establish the vocabulary and framework that managed services providers will need to comply with.
3. MSP security integration — the integration of IT operations and security monitoring is accelerating. Watch for managed services providers making significant moves into MDR/XDR capability, or security providers moving into managed IT operations.
